Black Pudding Zine Print Edition

You may already have seen James V West's stunning new zine Black Pudding. If not head over to RPGNow.com and grab the PWYW PDF. It is quite simply the best zine ever.

A few of days ago I tentatively asked James about his plans for a printed edition, and mentioned that I'd be interested in getting involved. I'm delighted to report that he's agreed to let me print and distribute Black Pudding. The A5 printed edition will be litho-printed on paper of the same weight and finish as The Black Hack and Oubliette Issue 9. I'm expecting them to be delivered just before Christmas. Cover price will be £3.00 and they'll be a wholesale option for orders of 10+ copies. At launch there will be shipping options for the UK/EU/Rest of the World.

I've been tweaking the page layout for the B/X Monster Reference Index. Each entry now includes a superscript 2 character reference to help identify the books the monsters come from. I've also added ascending AC values in brackets after the descending AC value.

My Monster Index Kickstarter had a great first 24 hours and has now passed double the initial goal amount. Today I wanted to explain the approach I've followed for selecting monsters to include in the index. My main collection of books with monsters looks like this:

For the index I've used the 300ish monsters in the two Labyrinth Lord books as a base. I've then worked through my copy of Tome of Horrors Complete adding all the monsters from it that also appear in any of the First Edition monster books. The end result is list of just over 500 monsters. Ideally they should cover 90%+ of all the B/X and 1st Edition Monsters that are easily identified as Open Content. I've resisted adding some animals, and limited the dinosaur entries to those found in the Labyrinth Lord books.

The index will include a reference to show which book one should look at for the full entry of a monster.

I've just launched my 14th Kickstarter project. The B/X Monster Reference Index will be an A5-sized, spiral-bound index, with stats for over 500 b/x monsters.

B/X Characters Rules PocketMod

One of the extras that I am producing to go with my OSR Character Sheet Pads is a PocketMod containing all the rules required to roll up a 1st level B/X character.  The folowing images show what it looks like so far.  It is amazing how much you can get on to a single A4 sheet of paper.  The PocketMod not only has all the basic rules for creating characters, but it also has a combat table, a saving throws table, weapon damage and even missile weapon ranges.  I had planned to produce 2 PocketMods one for character generation, and a second with equipment lists.  However, I surprised myself by finding space for basic equipment in addition to all the character generation rules.  I will also be adding lists and descriptions of 1st level cleric and magic-user spells on the back so the sheet can be unfolded to look at them.
