Watercolour Hex Map

This is an A2 map painted with a set of watercolour paints (the hard block type) that I borrowed from my daughter's art supplies.

To start with I simply drew a rough line to mark the coast and the island. Then I laid down a thin wash of blue for the sea and light green for the land. Once dry I applied extra washes of; grey for the mountain, darker green for the forests, ochre for the swamps/marshes, and a slightly stronger blue for deeper areas of the sea. The rivers and mountain details were added in with a slightly thicker paint mix, and roads/settlements were added with rough dark pencil. At this stage the map was very powdery so to stop the colour rubbing off I sealed with a thin mix of water and PVA glue.

The A2 sheets are available from the Squarehex site here:

A2 Numbered Hex Sheets

I've got a new supplier that can print large sheet sizes at reasonable prices. I'm going to start with a couple of short-run test prints to try them out, which I will run as pre-orders rather than Kickstarters. One of them will be an A2 mapping sheet. My plan is to have it printed with 14mm numbered hexes (I already have A4 sheets with these). The print run would be limited to 100 sheets which I'd sell at £1 each, 5 sheets for £4, or 10 sheets for £7. Those prices would include a card mailing tube, but postage would be extra.

Just wanted to check potential demand for such a sheet. I'm also very happy to listen to other suggestions for large A1 and A2 mapping sheets. If the pre-order works well then my next Kickstarter could involve printing several different sheets.

Last 24 Hours of the Numbered Hex Pad Kickstarter

There's just 24 hours left to get in on my Hex Pad Kickstarter. The pads will be available to buy at Squarehex.co.uk in a couple of month's, but if you want them first, and for the lowest price, then head over to the project page sharpish.

A4 Numbered Hex Pad Kickstarter is Live

I've just launched a new Kickstarter project to fund a print run of A4 sized, numbered hex paper pads. The sheets will be litho printed with light grey (cool grey 5) 14mm tall hexes in a landscape format (giving 23 x 14 hexes per sheet). The pads will each have 25 sheets glued along one edge and be attached to a backing card. Here's a link to the project page:

Kickstarter #6 Imminent

The Pad of Hexagonal Content Kickstarter is done and backers have just started receiving their rewards.  Here's a photo of the finished pads.

For my next Kickstarter I will be printing some A4 hex pads with numbered, larger (14mm high) hexes.  The campaign has been approved by Kickstarter and is almost ready to launch.  The one thing I'm still undecided on is whether to print the pads portrait or landscape.  The default format I've created is portrait which gives 15 hexes across by 20 down.  If I switch to landscape they would be 22 hexes across by 15 down.  Has anybody got any thoughts or preferences?
