Dungeon Master's Little Black Book Project is Live!

 I've just launched my Dungeon Master's Little Black Book project on Kickstarter. It's off to a flying start and funded in the first few minutes.

The aim of this project is to fund print runs of two versions of The Dungeon Master's Little Black Book. The first version will be crammed full of random tables, ideas and maps that can be used by a DM during a game without any preparation. The second version will be a blank version of the Little Black Book that a DM can add their own content to.

Combat Counters Kickstarter is Live!

My next Kickstarter is now up and running. This time I'm going to produce sets of dry-wip counters for tabletop games. There are several designs and 2 colour choices. If we hit some Stretch Goals then more colours get added. There's also a Designer Pledge Level where you get to brief the design for a counter and then we add it to the project. I shall bring some samples of the counters to Dragonmeet on Saturday 30th November.

FOSSIL B/X Character Generation Booklet

FOSSIL (Fantasy Old School System Index Lite) is a bare bones OSR system that is roughly compatible with B/X rules and retroclones (the rules have parity with Labyrinth Lord). This first booklet covers character generation and advancement.

The booklet is just 12 small pages (landscape DL 210x105mm) yet includes everything needed to generate and equip a B/X character. It also includes advancement rules to tenth level, combat and damage tables, full descriptions for first level cleric and magic-user spells, and a blank character sheet.

There are two versions of the PDF. The first one gives clerics a spell at first level. Whereas the second one gives clerics their first spell at second level and follows strict B/X spell progression for clerics thereafter. Otherwise they are identical.

Professionally printed copies of this booklet will be available from Squarehex.co.uk in April 2018. I hope to include a sticker with each printed copy that will allow the alternate cleric spell advancement to added as an option. My aim with the printed edition is to make it very low cost so that a GM can give out a copy to each player at the table for minimum outlay.

Work on the second booklet with Game Mastering rules is underway. Following that there will be a Spells booklet and possibly a Monsters booklet. In addition there is also my B/X Monster Reference Index which is already available in print and PDF.

Here's two more pages from my B/X Character Generation booklet. I should have Magic-User and Thief pages done by tomorrow. The blank spaces will get filled with some artwork, but I'll leave that until I've finished all the layout in case things move around a bit.

B/X Character Generation Booklet

I hoped to have got a lot further with FOSSIL (fantasy old school system index lite) ideas by now. However, things are moving again with it, and I thought I'd share the first page of a little booklet I'm working on.

The finished booklet will be 12 or 16 pages and should include most of what is needed to generate and run characters from levels 1-10. Spell descriptions will only be included for 1st level, but full spell descriptions might go in a future booklet. The content is all written and some of the layout is complete. I hope to have it out in PDF and print before Christmas. The booklet will be DL sized (210mm x 105mm) and in landscape format.

The back page of the booklet will be a Character sheet based on my recent mug design.

A complete B/X Character Sheet on a mug. The Black Hack Rules Preview

The Black Hack is a streamlined OSR RPG by David Black that is currently live on Kickstarter.

I was going to write a series of blog posts this week to show some of the mechanics of The Black Hack. However, David has put together a couple of preview pages that collate some key rules and give a much better idea of how the system works. They also serve as a preview of how the rule book interior is laid out.

Combat Cards

I took a dozen packs of these to the UK Games Expo and sold all but a couple of them. They were a last minute item that I added to a non-gaming stationery order simply to reach the free delivery price point. Here's the blurb about them:
