In our Stonehell game on Saturday, I tried out an idea I've long been toying with - a projected game map. The idea is simple enough: take one data projector, rig a mirror at a 45 degree angle, and project a dungeon map down on to a 50 inch screen on the tabletop. Here's what the end result looks like:
So you gamed with it, right? How did it go?
ReplyDeleteIt was a big hit. I'm one of the players in the campaign so I drew the map as we played. In previous sessions we've used an LCD monitor flat on the table but it's a bit small. This screen was big enough to zoom in for encounters, like the Lizardmen in the picture, and then zoom out for general exploration.
ReplyDeleteVery high tech!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have a hard time convincing my spouse of the necessity of this, but by gum, 'im gonna try...
ReplyDeleteIt's in our family "games" room so nobody minds the hooks being left in the ceiling when it's not in use. The table top is actually panel on top of a billiards table so the whole thing is dual purpose.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I've used a wall projector before, but this is so much better! If you have a Nintendo Wii and some MacGiver skills, you can turn it into an interactive board. I need to refresh my memory on YouTube how to do that...
ReplyDeleteI've seen the Wii Remote lightpen on YouTube and it looks amazing. I don't have one myself but I'm tempted to get one to try it.
